Tinordi to Return to Guide Junior Nationals - Guiles Named Junior Caps Head Coach

2007-03-26

Mark Tinordi and Justin Guiles will lead the Washington Junior Nationals and Washington Junior Capitals, respectively, during the 2007-08 season.

The Washington Junior Nationals are excited to announce that Mark Tinordi will return in 2007-08 for his second season as head coach of the Washington Junior Nationals.
The Washington Junior Capitals will be led in 2007-08 by Justin Guiles, who will also serve as the Hockey Director of the Washington Little Capitals.

Tinordi, a 12-year veteran on the NHL blue lines, has been a longtime youth coach in the Washington Little Capitals. He also served as head coach of the Washington Junior Capitals during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.  Tinordi’s natural progression to the Junior Nationals has given the Junior program solid leadership and experience on and off the ice.

Many Washington area fans remember Tinordi as a player during his five-year stint (1994-99) with the Washington Capitals.  He helped the Caps advance to the Stanley Cup Finals, for the first and only time in franchise history, during the memorable 1997-98 season.  Tinordi also helped guide the Minnesota North Stars to the Stanley Cup Finals during the 1990-91 season.

Tinordi’s NHL career (1987-99) included 663 games, 200 points and more than 1,500 penalty minutes.  Prior to the NHL, the Red Deer, Alberta, native played for the Lethbridge (Alta.) Broncos and entered the big leagues as an undrafted free agent with the New York Rangers.

Tinordi will again be assisted by Brian St. Louis, who is a former Junior Nationals team captain who helped guide the Nats to the 2004 Atlantic Junior Hockey League title.  St. Louis has assisted Tinordi all four years of his involvement with the Junior program.

Justin Guiles will take the reins of the Junior Capitals after serving as an assistant coach with the team last year.

Guiles has a very thorough hockey background both on the ice and off.  As a player, the Binghamton, N.Y., native grew up playing for the Chenango Valley Warriors and the Binghamton Jr. Rangers before attending Pomfret School and playing two years of varsity for the Griffins.  In college, Guiles played ACHA hockey for Bates College.

After college Guiles has served in numerous front office hockey positions including vice president of Top Shelf Sports, LLC, which owned and operated the Binghamton Junior Senators, and a recently completed stint as the Washington Capitals’ Coordinator of Amateur Hockey/Alumni Relations.
